The Missing Story was a community arts project developed with pupils from Grosvenor Park Academy and Dee Point Primary School in Chester, commissioned by Chester Contemporary in 2023. It invited children to explore Chester’s Rows through making and storytelling, giving them space to think about the built environment from their own position.

The project focused on Chester’s Rows, children looked at how they were built, what they were used for, and how they have changed over time. They created 3D models and wrote, illustrated and narrated their own stories inspired by the Rows - see the videos below.

The children also designed postcards and sent these to primary schools across the UK.

The final models and postcards were exhibited at the Grosvenor Shopping Centre in September 2023.

Children's models and stories brought their own perspectives into how Chester’s heritage and built environment could be understood, experienced and imagined.
